New Bosch plant in Xi'an, China: expanding production capacity for one of the largest machine building nations
  • Bosch subsidiary Bosch Rexroth expands its production network for industrial applications
  • Investment of 145 million CNY
  • Production capacity of the new plant to be doubled by 2013

With an investment of 145 million CNY in its plant in Xi'an, Bosch is boosting the position of its subsidiary Bosch Rexroth in the Chinese market. In so doing, Bosch, an international technology company, is also expanding the range of services it offers in the region to include application engineering, cabinet assembly, and product customization tailored to its customers in China.

With an official opening ceremony for the new plant in Xi'an, Bosch Rexroth is expanding its worldwide production network for industrial applications. “This new plant for frequency converters is yet another example of the importance Bosch Rexroth attaches to Asian growth markets,” said Reiner Leipold-Buettner, a member of the executive board at Bosch Rexroth AG who took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with the government officials.

In March, some 370 employees at the newly opened plant in Xi'an began to develop and produce frequency converters tailored to the Chinese market. “China has developed into one of the largest machine building nations in the world, with excellent prospects for further growth, and Bosch Rexroth supports its Chinese customers with high local content; with components that are designed for specific regions and manufactured locally," said Peter Pang, president of Bosch in China.

Bosch Rexroth frequency converters are mainly used for electric drives in pumps and fans, for compressors, in the cement and steel industries, and in machine tools. They are perfectly suited to making industrial processes more energy-efficient and to increasing the flexibility of machines. In China, more than 23,000 Bosch employees manufacture automotive equipment, industrial technology, power tools, heating systems, security systems, and household appliances.

The entire site covers 42,000 m², with the production building housing 12 production lines. The goal is to double capacity by 2013. In addition, the new site is also home to the main development activities for Bosch Rexroth frequency converters, to marketing and sales, and to distribution and administrative functions.
