Bosch Appoints New China President
  • Dr. Yudong Chen is appointed President of Bosch China, with Mr. Peter Pang retiring from the position
  • Dr. David Xu becomes Dr. Chen's successor as Executive Vice President of Bosch China

January, 2011, Shanghai, China – Dr. Yudong Chen, formerly Executive Vice President of Bosch China, has been appointed President of Bosch China, effective as of January 1st, 2011. He is taking over the responsibility from Mr. Peter Pang, who retired from the position on December 31st, 2010. Dr. Chen's successor, Dr. David Xu, is now in charge of overseeing the business development of Bosch Automotive Technology in China.

Dr. Chen was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. He graduated from Chongqing University with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1982. He also studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan and received his PhD in 1991. After receiving his MBA from Michigan State University in 1998, he returned to China and held diverse posts in engineering, business development and management at a leading automotive technology supplier. In 2007, Dr. Chen joined Bosch Group as Senior Vice President of the Gasoline Engine Department, in charge of business development in China. From May 2008, he began to lead the business development of Bosch Automotive Technology in China. Under his three–year management, Bosch Automotive Technology sales in China – accounting for roughly 60 percent of all group sales in China – more than doubled.

Looking ahead to his new position, Dr. Chen said: "China's dynamic economic growth is evidence of the region's incredible potential. Bosch is committed to the long–term development in this promising market, and will continue to contribute to protecting the environment and saving resources in China with its extensive green technology innovations and solid local presence. I greatly look forward to working together with our over 20,000 Bosch associates in China, to bring more localized technologies ‘Invented for life' as well as provide dedicated local support for our Chinese customers. I will fully dedicate myself to the continued success of Bosch in China."

Dr. Xu joined Bosch Group as Executive Vice President of Bosch China in September 2010 to take over the Bosch Automotive Technology business in China. Prior to joining Bosch, he had a solid 18 years of experience in the automotive component industry in Japan, USA and China, with diversified responsibilities in engineering, plant operation, business development and management. Dr. Xu was born in Wuhu, Anhui Province. He graduated from Qinghua University with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985. After that, he studied at Chiba University in Japan, where he received a PhD in production science and technology in 1992. He also received an MBA from the University of Rochester in 2000.

Regarding his successor, Dr. Chen commented: "We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Xu to Bosch. With his strong engineering and operations background and international perspective, coupled with his proven experience in business management in China's auto parts industry, he will help Bosch drive the continued growth of its Automotive Technology business in China."

Mr. Pang will continue to support Bosch as a special counselor to the board of management of the Bosch Group regarding China issues. Mr. Pang joined the Bosch Group in Australia in 1973 and became President of Bosch China in 2003. During his over seven–year tenure in China, he successfully led the rapid business development of Bosch in the emerging Chinese market, which has now become the third largest country for Bosch in terms of sales. He also helped Bosch establish a strong local presence for Bosch in China, which operated 47 legal entities and employed over 21,200 associates in 2009.
