April 22, 2008, Beijing – Bosch showcases its advanced automotive technology solutions at the 10th Beijing International Auto Exhibition. The company presents various innovations including modern drive solutions such as Hybrid, start/stop systems as well as Automotive Safety and Multimedia Systems.
“Our program of innovations takes its cue from our company slogan ‘Invented for life’. This incorporates the development of automotive technology to enhance automotive safety, protect the environment and conserve fuel resources all over the world – particularly in China, ”, says Dr. Rudolf Colm, Member of the Board of Management of the Bosch Group responsible for the coordination of Bosch activities in the Asia-Pacific region.
Continued business growth in 2007 and long-term commitment to the Chinese Automotive Industry
The 2007 business results of the Bosch Group and Bosch in China were also presented during Auto China. More than 270,000 associates worldwide generated sales of over 46 billion euros. After adjusting for currency effects, sales growth was roughly eight percent. All three business sectors, Automotive Technology, Industrial Technology and Consumer Goods and Building Technology, showed positive growth. The Automotive Technology sector performed well, increasing its sales by 4.5 percent to 28.5 billion euros. Nearly 166,000 associates worldwide generated 62 percent of overall sales.
In the past year, Bosch spent 3.6 billion euros equivalent to eight percent of the company’s sales revenue in research and development. A total of roughly 30, 000 associates work in research and development around the globe. In 2007, Bosch researchers and developers registered a total of 3, 281 patents, equal to 14 patent applications submitted every working day.
Bosch also continued on its growth path in China in fiscal 2007. Some 17,200 associates generated consolidated sales of 18.3 billion CNY, a 41 percent growth compared to the previous year.
“The positive business development encourages Bosch to invest more in China,” President of Bosch ( China) Investment Ltd., Peter Pang says. ”By the end of 2007, we have invested 1 billion euros in China and will further invest 850 million euros from 2008 to 2010. In the future, we will further expand our manufacturing and R&D activities in China to support our local customers and play an important role as a supplier and partner to the development of China’s automotive industry.”
Innovations for environmental protection and improved vehicle safety
Bosch presents for the first time the Start/stop system to China during Auto China as a means to save fuel and reduce harmful emissions. Start/stop systems switch off the engine, gasoline or diesel alike, when the vehicle is stopping at the traffic light or in a traffic jam. Start/stop technology can effectively reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by as much as 8 percent, particularly in urban traffic. These systems have already been successfully deployed in Europe.
Bosch’s foresight four years ago to invest in a joint venture with Weifu for manufacturing and development of the world’s latest diesel common rail technology in Wuxi, is starting to pay off as China introduces emission standards equivalent to EURO III level. This marked the largest investment outside Germany. Bosch is dedicated to support “Clean Diesel” technology in China and also exhibits at Auto China its latest SCR system (Denoxtronic). SCR systems reduce NOx emissions by up to 85 percent, making diesel engines able to fulfill the toughest environment standards.
During Auto China, Bosch also introduces the latest ESP ® Plus and ESP ® Premium technology. Since Bosch globally launched the world’s first Electronic Stability Program ESP ® in 1995, ESP ® has been increasingly recognized as a safety technology that helps to prevent accidents. According to international accident studies at least 40 percent of all fatal car accidents are caused by skidding. Around 8 5 percent of all skidding accidents could be prevented with ESP ®.
Bosch also exhibits further innovative technologies such as Hybrid technology, Night Vision System, Combined Active and Passive Safety (CAP s) system and the Automated Parking Brake.
