- Cost-effective diesel Common Rail Injection Systems CRS 1.3 for the Chinese market for light commercial vehicles and passenger cars
- Economical – Clean – Powerful: Diesel passenger cars are an attractive solution for today’s market
- Chinese automakers show new passenger vehicles with latest new diesel technology
Shanghai, April 22, 2009 – During Auto Shanghai 2009, several leading automakers such as Chery, GWM, JMC, Huatai and Dong Feng Liuqi, exhibit their latest innovative models, equipped with Bosch’s modern clean diesel solution - Common Rail System (CRS).
"CRS has already become the standard for diesel passenger cars around the world," said Rudolf Maier, General Manager and Vice Chairman of the Board, Bosch Automotive Diesel Systems Co., Ltd. "And we are glad to see that the diesel engine in passenger cars is attracting more attention also in China. With high potential to support future emission standards like Euro 4, Euro 5 and Euro 6, and fuel savings CRS is a good solution to help our Automotive customers in developing their advanced and high quality diesel passenger cars."
Bosch first introduced CRS on the international market in the late 1990s and has manufactured more than 50 million common rail systems until today.
CRS’s global popularity results from the benefits bought about by fuel economy, less emission, improved comfort and higher torque. By allowing the greatest flexibility in terms of injection timing and pressure, CRS reduces fuel consumption and corresponding CO2 emissions. When compared to similar gasoline engines, the modern diesel engine equipped with CRS can save more than 30% fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by about 25%. Additionally, diesel engines’ increased torque level of more than 50% provides faster acceleration and enhanced pulling speed at low speeds, creating a more enjoyable driving experience.
Given such convincing benefits, diesel passenger vehicles have already become widely used in international markets. In Western Europe, around 50% of newly registered passenger vehicles run on diesel fuel. In specific countries like France, the figure is as high as 74%. Reasons commonly cited for the high market share include fewer trips to the fuelling station and lower fuel costs.
Bosch’s diesel technology can help to provide a similar contribution to the Chinese Automotive Industry which will result in energy efficiency.
In 2004, Bosch together with Weifu established Bosch Automotive Diesel Systems Co., Ltd to meet the increasing demand of Chinese customers in modern Diesel technology. In this joint venture, Bosch locally manufactures diesel fuel injection systems for the local vehicle market.
Cost-effective diesel solutions like the CRS 1.3 were developed in China specifically for the requirements of the Chinese market. CRS1.3 is designed to meet CN3 emission standards and can be upgraded to meet CN4.
The high-pressure pump used in this system is the first Bosch CRS pump developed in co-operation with Bosch’s JV partner Weifu, and manufactured by Weifu. Another economical high-pressure pump for heavy commercial vehicles is also manufactured by Weifu. Further localized products are under development.
Among the diesel vehicles shown on Auto Shanghai, the Dong Feng Liuqi-produced Fengxing Linzhi Diesel will feature Bosch's CRS 1.3 technology which is scheduled for market introduction later on in 2009.
Regarding the increasing demand for energy-efficient, cost-effective technology solutions and products in the Chinese market Mr. Rudolf Maier said "We expect diesel passenger cars in China to have a significant growth within the next years. We will increasingly continue to develop clean, energy saving and cost effective localized diesel solutions to contribute to an environmentally friendly society and to the improvement of the Chinese people's quality of life."
