Two Bosch schools' inauguration in Sichuan

Shanghai/ Pengzhou/ Heishui, November 5-6, 2009 – Two schools in Sichuan Province recently completed reconstruction and started to operate again. To commemorate Bosch's help in the rebuilding effort, both schools were named as Bosch schools. Officials from Sichuan Province, Pengzhou Municipal Government and Heishui County Government, representatives of the local bureau of education and more than 2,200 teachers and students in total attended the inauguration events at the two schools. From Bosch side Uwe Raschke, member of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH, and Peter Pang, President of Bosch (China) Investment Ltd. were present at the respective inauguration ceremony.

Taiqing Bosch 9-Year School

Located in Pengzhou city, 67 kilometres North West of Chengdu, the old Taiqing 9-Year School was one of the damaged schools by the earthquake in Sichuan last year. The main school buildings, laboratories and dormitories were destroyed. With a building area of 10,500 square meters, the school started reconstruction early February, and was completed in September, 2009. Now, more than 1,600 students and 120 teachers moved back to the new earthquake-proof school buildings from the temporary facilities. The new school was renamed Taiqing Bosch 9-Year School.

During the inauguration ceremony of Taiqing Bosch School, Uwe Raschke, member of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH and Ms. Tan Xuejun, the Deputy Party Secretary of Pengzhou together unveiled a plaque to commemorate the event. Ms. Tan said, "The new school building demonstrated the great support from the government, related organizations and the donation from Bosch."

Mr. Raschke said, "After the earthquake, all Bosch associates have been touched by the degree of the damages. As an organization with a 100-year history in China, we consider ourselves as a company with strong roots in the country and strong responsibility for its society and its people. Therefore it was important for us to support the rebuilding of the destroyed area and lay the foundation for a prosperous development." During the ceremony, Mr. Raschke was also appointed Honorary Principal of Taiqing Bosch 9- Year School.

Musu Bosch Central School

On the next day, Peter Pang, President of Bosch (China) Investment Ltd. attended the opening ceremony of Musu Bosch Central School and unveiled a plaque to commemorate this event together with Zhou Zhikang, Deputy Head of Heishui County.

Musu Bosch Central School in Heishui County is a newly built school to replace three earthquake-damaged schools. Located on the plateau area at a height of more than 2,400 meters above sea level, the school is the primary boarding school serving three villages nearby. It broke the ground in middle of March and was completed in October 2009. Now, more than 600 students and 20 teachers from Musu Village and Shuangliusuo Village already moved to the new buildings. By the end of the autumn of 2010, an additional 200 students from Hongyan Village will join them.

Mr. Zhou said, " With the help from the government and Bosch, we could successfully build this school to provide modern study facilities to more than 800 children."

Mr. Pang said," We are very pleased that our help extends to this remote rural area. We hope the new school will be a platform for promoting local education successfully, so that children in Heishui can receive a good foundation for advanced education later."

In June 2008, Bosch donated RMB 11 million for the rebuilding of the two schools in the area devastated by the earthquake of May 12th, 2008. Right after the occurrence of the earthquake, all Bosch subsidiaries, joint ventures and associates in China donated for the relief efforts through various ways. Bosch's total contribution to relief efforts and reconstructions programs for the people of Sichuan has stood at RMB 15.25 million.
