New green initiative from leading diesel technology supplier
Bosch upgrades shuttle buses with CN4 standard
  • Bosch advances green technologies and products to help Chinese automakers meet increasing requirements on energy saving and emission reduction
  • Constant efforts help Bosch stay energy-saving and environmentally friendly in its daily operations

Wuxi, July 9, 2010 – In its latest green initiative, Bosch Automotive Diesel System Co., Ltd is upgrading its shuttle buses to meet the CN4 standard. A launch ceremony is being held today in Bosch Diesel’s plant to mark the replacement of its old CN2 shuttle buses with 24 new CN4 buses – equipped with Bosch’s advanced diesel system, CRSN2. In attendance supporting the initiative are representatives from the Wuxi New District Government as well as the Environment Protection Bureau.

Compared to the former CN2 shuttle buses, the new ones emit 87 percent less particulate matter and 50 percent less NOx – in other words, the PM emission of all 24 shuttle buses equals less than what four of the former CN2 buses did, and the NOx emission is equal to only half of what it was before. Additionally, a CN4 shuttle bus consumes five percent less fuel than the CN3 bus - that means all 24 CN4 shuttle buses can save around 10,300 liters of diesel fuel and accordingly reduce CO2 emissions by 26,900 kilograms every year. The move is not only expected to help contribute to the local environment, but also set a good example for other companies to follow.

Corporate social responsibility is part of Bosch’s corporate culture, and energy saving and environmental protection is a key focus. In its daily operations, Bosch Automotive Diesel System Co., Ltd makes every effort to fulfill its environmental commitment, including spending 2.5 million CNY on exhaust water treatment every year, purchasing low-energy-consumption equipment, and optimizing the use of electrical appliances such as air-conditioners and illumination devices. The Engineering Test Center, with help from the test fuel recycling project, also recycles around 80 tons of test fuel and reduces CO2 emissions by 255 tons every year. In addition, the Facility Maintenance Department annually saves 50,000 tons of water, 3,000 tons of steam, and 1,780 MWH of electricity.

“As an industry leader specializing in clean diesel technologies, Bosch attaches great importance to green policies,” says Rudolf Maier, General Manager and Vice Chairman of the Board, Bosch Automotive Diesel Systems Co., Ltd. “Besides staying green in our daily operations, we also keep providing the market with energy-saving and environmentally friendly technologies and products.”

Bosch has made strong R&D efforts to be at the forefront of meeting the CN4 emission standard, which has been introduced in big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. The common-rail system, together with SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology, can significantly and effectively reduce the emissions of NOx and PM, as required by CN4 and even CN5. Additionally, SCR technology can help reduce fuel consumption by around five percent.

A noteworthy Bosch development in 2009 was the SRSFS (shift reminding system for fuel saving). SRSFS can help rectify drivers’ bad habits and keep engines running with high efficiency. Vehicles equipped with common-rail systems and SRSFS are capable of saving fuel by 10 to 20 percent.

“Bosch’s industry-leading expertise makes us capable of developing green technologies and products,” says Maier. “We will continue to work closely with our clients and maintain our own green efforts to contribute to China’s sustainable development.”
